The club was first formed in 1963 by Mr. John "Nobby " Hayward and is thought to have been known as Caldecott Boys, changing its name in later years to Abingdon Boys. Mr. Hayward was known throughout Abingdon as "Mr. Abingdon Boys" for his total dedication to the football club, which became his second family. He devoted his life to the club until his unfortunate death on March 15th 1987 aged 63. The club has played its fixtures all over Abingdon during its existence including the old MG car site, Pavlova, Dalton Barracks, Saxton Rovers and many more before finally being offered its current ground at Lambrick Way in 1985. The club's name has also changed over the years from Abingdon Boys, to Abingdon Boys & Girls, to its current name of Abingdon Youth F.C. Since it was first formed, thousands of children have passed through the club, and it is hoped that thanks to all the volunteers who help keep the club going, that many more thousands will do so over the coming years. The club currently caters for all ages of children from Under 7S to Under 16S. The club is now a F.A Charter Standard club , with every manager gaining a Junior Managers F.A. course. This has improved the standard of the club as a whole, the standard of coaching among the managers and the quality of football given to the boys and girls.
